Mixed-Abilities and Diversity in the Secondary ELT Classroom

However big or small our classes are, one of the biggest challenges we face in our day-to-day teaching is how to include and involve all of our students and make sure every single one of them makes progress. This practical talk will begin by examining the many differences that exist between the individuals in our classes and then I will suggest a wide variety of approaches and activities to help keep all of our students ‘on board’.

After studying languages at Oxford University, David Spencer trained to be a Secondary School teacher. He then moved to Spain where he has been living and teaching ever since. He continues to teach teenage students every day in a school near Madrid. Apart from teaching and training teachers, Dave began writing Secondary courses for Macmillan in 1994. His latest series is Gateway To The World, a 7-level course designed to prepare teenage students for school-leaving exams and for life after school.
