ionel Messi, the Barcelona phenomenon and two-time
FIFA World Player, wore one in September, and again as a
special tester during an exhibition game. The object of desire
for millions of football fans is a special version of the F50
adiZero, a shoe Adidas launched in 2010. What makes this accessory
special is a tiny chip inside the sole of the shoe whose job is to
transmit wireless data and information about the performance of
the athlete wearing it to a synchronized computer or mobile device.
From a technical standpoint, the objective of this technological
innovation is easy to guess: real-time digital information on the
player’s physical performance that can be compared to a previous
performance or to that of a fellow teammate.
The package, in addition to the two shoes with the chip, includes
software to analyze and categorize data on a smartphone or personal
computer and sells for
€
245 ($ 338 in the U.S.). Not exactly a price
within everyone’s reach, especially young people, but according to
several experts the brand’s appeal and the electronic add-on will
convince many consumers to purchase it.
