The Top Ten Reservation Terms and Conditions
Reservation Terms and Conditions can vary according to the country
of rental. This information is only a summary of the most common
terms and conditions applied by most car rental companies.
1.
Minimum Age.
Most companies require renters to be 25
years old. Some companies allow 21-year-old customers
to drive economy or medium cars, but they require the
payment of a surcharge and a deposit.
2.
Driving Licence.
Renters must have a valid driving
licence and have had it for at least 12 months, and must
show it at the moment of rental. The driving licence must
be valid throughout the rental period.
3.
Airport/City surcharges (APT).
A surcharge on the rental
rate is applied on rentals beginning at airport locations or railway
locations.
4.
Pick-up/Drop-Off.
Renters can generally pick up a vehicle at one location and return it at
a different location without any surcharge.
5.
Return.
The vehicle must be returned by the time indicated on the reservation confirmation.
Failure to return the vehicle by that time may result in the payment of additional charges,
for example an extra day’s rental. Some locations may allow a short period of grace beyond
the return time without additional charge.
6.
Cancellation.
Most companies fully refund renters who cancel their reservation within 7
days. If they cancel after a 7-day period, a charge will be deducted from the refund.
7.
No Show.
If renters do not cancel their reservation prior to the Pick Up time and do not
collect the car on the Pick Up date they will have to pay a No Show charge to compensate
the company for their inability to rent the car to someone else.
8.
Additional driver.
In Italy vehicles may be driven by a person other than the renter, on
payment of a surcharge. In other countries, an additional driver is not permitted.
9.
Rate.
Car rates normally include tax, unlimited mileage, Collision Damage Waiver (CDW),
Theft Protection (TP), vehicle registration fee (VRF) or road tax.
10.
Fuel and special equipment.
Fuel is not included in the rates. For cars rented with a full
tank and returned without the same quantity of fuel, companies may charge the refuelling
service in addition to the cost of the missing fuel. Some special equipment, such as baby
seats, snow chains and ski racks, may be available on payment of a surcharge.
