Contents

what does it mean to reach the goal of not only multilingual competence, but also multicultural, as has been indicated by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages? The XVII National Convention ILSA, through the contributions of the speakers, has investigated the psycholinguistic aspects of second language learners, that is the cognitive and emotional functions which accompany the learning process. As has been affirmed by Bettoni, language learning is above all a cognitive job, which learning to live in another culture through language (therefore use the language effectively and appropriately) is a prevalently emotional process. The work at the convention also concentrated on an examination of techniques of the foreign language learning methodologies which most responded to the cognitive and emotional needs of language learners.
