Business tourism is a sector of the wider tourism
industry. It
encompasses
individual business travel;
congresses, conferences and meetings; exhibitions
and trade fairs; incentive travel and outdoors events.
Over the past ten years, there has been a 53% growth
in all business trips worldwide exceeding the overall
tourism growth rate.
The
congress
(often called
convention
) or
conference
market brings together people with common
professional, scientific or social interests. Individuals
attend these events because they provide an opportunity
to share ideas and information about their industry or field. Academic and research institutions
send delegates to attend meetings so as to publish and present results of research, give publicity
to their research and attract further government and industry sponsorship.
More and more conferences nowadays are held in highly attractive locations making themmotivational
events.
