Sardines
Named after the island of Sardinia, these richly flavoured fish are
an essential in Italian cuisine. They are available both fresh and
preserved in tins, but the fresh varieties tend to go off quickly, so
need to be used straight away. Sardines, as well as anchovies and
mackerel are very healthy as they are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids.
